Gut Health

The gut-brain connection goes both ways. Studies show a direct connection between gut health and mental wellbeing. LifeMed’s philosophy is to integrate these findings with conventional medicine guidelines to adopt a holistic treatment.

Diet plays a pivotal role in our mental wellbeing. Studies have shown that a healthy gut environment improves communication along the gut-brain axis which improves the function of the vagus nerve.

The vagus nerve is the main component of the parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for overseeing fundamental functions including immune response, mood control, digestion and heart rate.

There is now evidence that stimulating gut health through lifestyle interventions can be beneficial in treating mood and anxiety disorders as well as conditions associated with increased inflammation in the body.

Some studies have shown that therapeutic plant-based medicines derived from the cannabis sativa plant have anti-inflammatory effects and can help stimulate gut health which can assist with the regulation of stress responses and mitigation of mood disorders.

Dr Mehdi is a specialised GP and has been authorised by the TGA to prescribe therapeutic plant-based medicines. He has a special interest in lifestyle medicine which focuses on preventing, treating and reversing chronic conditions with lifestyle interventions.

If you are experiencing gut health problems and/or symptoms associated with mood and anxiety, book a consultation to discover how plant-based treatment options and lifestyle medicine can improve your condition.
